~~A Stitchers Heart~~

~~Hello all~~

I have been busy stitching and finishing the 2012 Little House Needleworks ~A Stitchers Heart~~

It was a fun stitch as it came with all the necessary overdye threads and rick-rack...

Here is the finished product....

A Stitchers Heart
Little House Needleworks
Crescent Colors overdyed threads and 1/2" rick-rack

I first had to rescue the poor rick-rack that was in my kit....Somehow it was all balled up in packaging and needed a good ironing....So, iron your supplies before you start...

I have to admit when I re-read the directions and it told me to make a slit in the backing fabric to turn the heart inside out, I thought there must be a better way!! So....I came up with this.....I sewed a flap in the back by overlapping the fabrics...

After you put a small amount of stuffing or padding in, you just hem stitch this flap shut...

Doing it this way allows you to sew completely around the heart with no distortion...

Then rouch and attach the rick rack....

Back side of finished heart....

This was a super fun stitch for me and was so thankful I had brought
this partiular homespun with me ... It turned out to be a perfect match to the BeanSprout rick-rack!

With Easter behind me, I am now working on a Patriotic design by Sheepish Designs....I hope to finish stitching and fabricate it into something useful for the Patriotic corner of my craft room....You know me....It will be a little bit of a twist from the designers framed model.. We'll see how things go tomorrow...2 more days until I am heading back home....

Here's hoping you are also having a fantastic week!!

Always,

Faye

Faye, what a beautiful finish! I really do love this piece. I haven't bought it yet, but have a feeling when I find it on a future visit to a needlework shop it will find it's way home with me!!

You have a talent for finish work too, nicely done.

Beautiful finish Faye. I didn't realize that it was ricrac that was ruched to finish it.

this is such a wonderful design - I loved it at first sight.
Thank you for showing your finished piece and sharing your good tipps (especially the one with the flap on the back sounds very very interesting ...)

Words like 'slit the fabric' always make you hold your breath and say, Do What? don't they? Like your alternative, and your solution is much neater. Very pretty finish! Enjoy the rest of your break... hope you brought some long sleeves ;-)

Hi Faye, your LHN heart is adorable! Rick-rack trim is one of my all-time favorite trims, but I've never "rouched" it before. I will have to give it a try...love the look! Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful finish! Can you tell me how you attached the rick rack? I have the pattern and it's frustrating me!

Your heart turned out just gorgeous and thanks so much for the tips! I appreciate that very much since I'm not much of a finisher.

Faye, your work is beautiful. I've been wanting that kit, now I know I have to have it. Nice alternative to slitting . . . that's also what Stacy Nash does on her pin drums. How do you finish those? Have you been to any of the events at Spring Green? I'm in the Prim Sisters Club too, and am loving the projects! Thanks for your beautiful blog. edie

So, so pretty, Faye!! Not sure if I'll ever get up my nerve to try a heart finish, but if I do, I'll remember your helpful tip.

Enjoy your last couple of days away :)

I'm so behind on reading and commenting, Faye, but I've loved your finishes and finish-finishes you've had lately. The heart is especially nice.

Thanks for the finishing tips. I love to benefit from what someone else has learned!

Congratulations on another wonderful finish! Thank you for sharing the "flap"...I cringe when finishing directions tell me to make a slit. I LOVE the rouching of the ric rac...must give that a try!
I'm looking forward to your patriotic stitching...

How pretty Faye! Love the tip on the "flap" in the back.... perfect finishing as always!

Enjoy the last of your stitching days.

Love this one Faye. I'm going to stitch it myself soon and really didn't like the idea of cutting a slit in the back so really like how you've done yours.

Fiona said...

Great finish and I would have done the same as you with the backing fabric. Why would you cut a slit in fabric to allow you to turn an item, what a strange idea!!
