I always like to pull out a few of my heart stitches this time of year..... I finished a couple more this year for my own display~~
Marly, of Sampler & Santas, has an amazing collection of freebie designs on her blog... **found here**.... (You'll see a sub header where they can be found... ) Marly is an amazing talent whose simple designs are favorites of mine....
32 count light Exempler linen, coffee stained, DMC threads
My personal interpretation of the design included hand stitching along the seam... Subtle and complimentary to the rose, gray and green threads~
I ran across an older stitch of mine that had not been sewed up for display... Designer Brin par Brin..... **here**... Isn't it the cutest little purse??
36 count cream Edinborough using 815 DMC...
Rather than stitching my initial in the center frame, I attached a few of my favorite charms... I like the flexibility of being able to remove them in the future... Possibly replacing with an antique button or snippet of something precious....
Tracy Riffle, now retired designer, has always been a favorite of mine.... Her design, "My Full Heart", is one of my favs because it's heart shaped and sampler-ish....
Lastly, my latest sampler stitch was so well received on the Scarlett Letter Years FB page, I thought I'd share here as well....
Margaret Randolph 1826..... a Scarlett Letter Sampler~
Stitched on Antique White 40 count linen using specified silks; except for the turquoise..... I substituted Gloriana silk Caribbean Sea for added color depth and slight variation......
When I look at the sweet first grade girls in my classroom and think they are nearly the same age Margaret was when she stitched her sampler, I have to wonder how things might have been if handiwork were still part of their lives.... As it was with Margaret and her classmates.....
Its February and Super Bowl Sunday...... I'm planning on sewing for you, stitching for myself while being entertained by lots of sports on the television!!!!

But most of all, I am impressed by the sampler of nine-year old Margret. When I see a sampler that was stitched of a girl this age, a always think the same as you: How did the do! I don't think that I was able to make this, when I was nine!

Hi Faye. Glad you like the heart! It is remarkable to think how young these stitchers were whose work we like to imitate. I'll be shoveling and snow blowing today. And then I'll shovel and blow snow. Maybe end the day with a little shoveling.

Love your finishes Faye! They are all so warm and homey along with the hand stitched edge. Really pretty. The ruler/measuring tape charm is a cutie. Haven't seen that one.

It's lovely to see your own stitching finishes. All are beautiful! As for the ages of the young stitchers, I saw online a letter to Lord Byron by his daughter Allegra. She wrote it at the age of 4 -- beautiful script handwriting, beautifully expressed as if she were so so much older. I have the feeling things were different in those times of yore!

I often think about how different it is for young girls today too. Some good, some not so good. Not having some type of introduction to the needle arts certainly falls into the not so good category.

Your post reminds me that I need to change out my decorations! Love your finishes... as always! The sampler-ish one by Tracy is definitely a sampler in my book... just heart shaped! And the Margaret sampler... truly beautiful finish! Love the blue you picked--it is perfect! I taught my oldest daughter to stitch, and then her three daughters. The eldest did a couple of projects but seems to have lost interest... and the middle one has dyslexia so cannot focus well enough. The youngest may resume soon...she loves it! She is recovering from surgery right now. Thanks for sharing! Hugs!
